The single-jointed pelham with short shanks of Sweet Iron is a hybrid bit that combines the advantages of snaffle and curb action in an elegant design. It enables a direct effect in the mouth and at the same time uses a light leverage via the shanks, whereby the pressure is distributed between mouth, poll and chin. This dual action makes it an excellent choice for horses that need extra support or more balance without resorting to sharper bits. Elegantly constructed, this bit supports clear communication with a soft effect and promotes responsiveness while retaining trust. The Sweet Iron mouthpiece oxidises naturally during use. This stimulates saliva production and supports a soft, accepting contact. The result is a smoother contact and a calmer, more confident way of going. The single-jointed mouthpiece ensures a direct, clear connection and transmits rein aids precisely. When the reins are taken up the joint forms a V shape that distributes the pressure on tongue and bars. This design suits horses with a higher palate well, as the single joint sits centrally in the mouth without exerting excessive pressure towards the palate. Many horses appreciate the clear, uncomplicated feel of a single-jointed bit, especially when they prefer a distinct effect and a constant contact. The short shanks of the pelham deliver a mild leverage that is easy for the rider to regulate. Ridden with two reins or with pelham straps the bit offers plenty of flexibility in giving aids. The upper ring is attached to the cheekpieces, while the lower ring is the leverage point. A curb chain can be added for stabilisation and more even pressure distribution.

Care & cleaning
After every ride rinse the bit with warm water and dry with a soft cloth. Over time a light patina forms through the natural oxidation of Sweet Iron, which can improve taste and acceptance. Store dry and check regularly for smooth, even wear. Make sure the bit is the right way round: the star must be on the left side, the Velari logo on the right.
